Welcome to “Our Mothers’ Bites“! We’re happy that you found us and hope that you’ll pull up a chair and stay for awhile. We would be happier yet if you let us know what you think about our site.
WHO WE ARE
We are Carrie and Mona, friends since elementary school, born and raised in Canada- otherwise known as the ‘Great White North’- for good reason.
Without getting into specifics (ahem), we are part of the tail end of the baby boomer generation which means we are wise enough to realize that favourite family recipes can slip away without a trace if we don’t make an effort to make sure that doesn’t happen.
Mona’s background is Norwegian/Ukranian.
Mine is Irish/Eastern European (Polish I think, but that’s a whole other story).
Together we are a reflection of Canada- a patchwork of nationalities and cultures that adds a bit of spice and alot of diversity our national cuisine. We both love to eat and fortunately we are both active enough to get away with a few indulgences along the way.
WHY A BLOG CALLED “OUR MOTHERS’ BITES” ?
Our blog is our way of honouring and preserving our mothers’ recipes. When we landed on this name, Carrie’s dad (a fine cook in his own right whose recipes go beyond those made on the BBQ) said “well I guess that means that you don’t want my recipe for tapioca pudding”. Which made us think that our blog should include favourites from our fathers as well. And so it does.
